Low Voltage AC Drives

ABB’s ACS880 low voltage AC drives offer complete flexibility and capability in wall-mounted or cabinet-built drives. All can be customized to precise needs in industries such as oil and gas, mining, metals, chemicals, cement, power plants, material handling, pulp and paper, sawmills and marine. They are built on ABB’s common drive platform for precision control in a wide range of applications such as cranes, extruders, winches, winders, conveyors, mixers, compressors, pumps and fans.

Wall-Mounted Single Low Voltage AC Drives

The ACS880-01 wall-mounted single drive, built on ABB’s all-compatible variable frequency drives architecture, offers unprecedented levels of compatibility, flexibility and ease-of-use. Important features are built-in to this compact wall-mounted drive, saving installation space and time. Designed to simplify operation, optimize energy efficiency and maximize output, the drives are compatible with virtually all types of AC motors, automation systems and user requirements.

At the heart of the drive is direct torque control (DTC), ABB’s premier motor control technology. Enjoy premium control with DTC, including permanent magnet motors and synchronous reluctance motors. Flexibility is provided by universal connectivity and a broad range of internal and external options. The options include EMC filters, encoders, resolvers, du/dt filters, sine filters, chokes and brake resistors, remote monitoring tools and application-specific software. Built-in safety features reduce the need for external safety components.

Cabinet-Built Industrial AC Drives

ABB’s cabinet-built drives have a wide range of standard and optional features, saving installation space and time. Enjoy premium control of virtually any type of AC motor with direct torque control (DTC), including permanent magnet motors and synchronous reluctance motors. Solutions to many different applications are possible with flexible connectivity and an extensive range of options.

Wall-Mounted Regenerative Single Drives

The compact ACS880-11 captures and utilizes braking energy, resulting in cost savings for the user. With regenerative functionality, the braking energy of the motor is returned back to the drive and distributed forward to the supply network so it can be used by other equipment. With mechanical or resistor braking, energy is wasted as heat and additional cooling is often required. In comparison with other braking methods, the ACS880-11 brings more energy savings and enables simplified and cost-efficient installation.

Cabinet-Built Regenerative Single Low Voltage AC Drives

The compact ACS880-17 captures and utilizes energy which results in cost savings for the user. With regenerative functionality, the braking energy of the motor is returned back to the drive and distributed forward to the supply network so the braking energy is not wasted as heat. In comparison with other braking methods, such as mechanical and resistor braking, the ACS880-17 substantially increases energy savings.

Wall-Mounted Ultra-Low Harmonic Drives

The compact ACS880-31 drive has harmonics mitigation built-in, including an active supply unit and integrated low harmonic line filter, so there is no need for external filters, multi-pulse arrangements or special transformers. By managing and controlling harmonics, the ACS880-31 reaches unity power factor. The drive also offers the possibilty for network power factor correction to compensate for low power factors of equipment connected to the same network.

Cabinet-Built Ultra-Low Harmonic Single Drives

The compact ACS880-37 produces exceptionally low harmonic content in the drive’s input without external filters or multi-pulse transformers. By managing and controlling harmonics, the ACS880-37 reaches unity power factor. The active supply unit in the drive is able to boost output voltage, which guarantees full motor voltage even when the supply voltage is below nominal.

ACS880 Drive Modules

Cabinet design and assembly is simplified by the capability, simplicity and ease of use provided by ABB’s all-compatible ACS880 drive modules, consisting of two types – single drive modules that control one motor and multidrive modules used to control several motors. Both have a configuration that contains a rectifier, DC link and an inverter. Multidrive modules are essential in multidrives where a standard DC bus arrangement is used, enabling single power entry and common braking resources for several drives.

ACS880 Memory Modules

This removable memory unit stores the standard software that includes user settings, parameter settings, firmware, programs, communication, encoder, IO extension options and motor data, and can easily be removed for maintenance, update or replacement purposes. No training is required to leverage this module. Users can easily take a drive out of a box and convert it to a custom application drive without any special skills. Security is provided through embedded data encryption to protect proprietary information and prevent unwanted field modification.
