Two-Hand Controls

Banner Engineering’s two-hand control modules monitor the output of each mechanical switch button and de-energize when the machine operator removes one or both hands from the buttons, providing protection for the worker actuating the hand controls.

These ergonomic and robust solutions provide a convenient and economical means for two-hand control actuation and safeguarding when interfaced with DUO-TOUCH SG control modules or comparable controls. They come with two diverse-redundant microcontroller-based photoelectric STB optical touch buttons with continuous internal self-checking. Available model options offer an emergency stop button, as well as terminal strip connection or 8-pin mini-style quick-disconnect. Accessories include floor and free-mounting stand, EZ-LIGHT indicators and optional mounting brackets.

STB self-checking touch buttons provide the highest level of safety for two-hand control input devices via redundant microprocessor and optical path, per independent certification tests. These buttons respond to a finger blocking light rather than to pressure, and feature ergonomic design to prevent repetitive motion stress. They are immune to ambient light, EMI and RFI, and available with electromechanical relays rated for 1 amp switch capacity or solid-state outputs rated for 150 mA. The buttons include a yellow field cover to prevent unintended switching.

These modules work with Banner STB self-checking touch buttons or can be retrofitted with existing mechanical palm buttons to create a complete, ergonomic two-hand control system. To ensure reliability, the modules have a diverse-redundant microcontroller circuit and multiple redundant, force-guided (mechanically linked) output contacts. Anti-tiedown logic requires that both touch buttons are activated within one-half second of each other. Modules are available with two or four normally open (NO) safety outputs, and non-safety auxiliary outputs are available on some models.
