RFID Systems

Balluff’s BIS industrial RFID systems help get a handle on the stream of information in a modern factory. Objects can be automatically identified and traced using RFID. To do this, a data carrier that functions as a memory is attached to the object and allows it to be identified. The data is transferred between the data carrier and the read/write head via the processor unit to the controller. RFID systems with various frequency ranges are finding increasing use in modern production and assembly plants.

Balluff offers a broad selection of innovative products for the low frequency (LF), high frequency (HF) and ultra-high frequency (UHF) range. The LF systems used mostly in metal environments are especially rugged and reliable. HF systems are preferred where greater read/write distances and high traverse speed are demanded. With the BIS V frequency-independent processor unit, all systems can be flexibly combined with each other to save costs through greater flexibility and lower inventory levels.

BIS M HF Industrial RFID Systems

High-frequency RFID designed for the toughest applications, BIS M RFID (13.56 MHz) support global ISO standards and are capable of reading tags up to 400mm away, fast and reliable even with large volumes of data in assembly and production. Ideal for work in process (WIP) applications, the BIS M system is built to withstand the rigors of the manufacturing world. With tags built to survive temperatures up to 220°C and systems capable of processing massive amounts of data quickly, the BIS M RFID system will exceed most requirements for data collection needs.

BIS C LF Industrial RFID System

Especially high-performing and flexible are the BIS C low-frequency systems with reliable tool identification in coolant- and lubricant-enriched machining centers. An exact positioning is not always necessary. Many data carriers can also be dynamically read and described in passing. LF (70/455 kHz) is the first choice for the tool identification over short ranges. Other areas of use are tool transport with conveyor systems, FTS and pallet transport systems, assembly technology and organization of supplies.

BIS L LF Industrial RFID

Our low-frequency RFID system (BIS L) is a reliable solution for assembly lines and internal logistics, for easy identification tasks, such as applications that involve simple “license plate” identification. For example, often only a read-only code is required for backtracing. The 125-kHz system is capable of reading data up to 100 mm away and performs well in an environment of liquid and metal. BIS L offers great diversity of data carriers and read/write heads for a wide range of applications and difficult conditions of use.

BIS U UHF Industrial RFID Systems

UHF identification solutions for dynamic processes with large reading distances ensure data transparency and traceability in automation processes. The BIS U provides bunching capability for current material flow concepts. UHF helps to achieve a fast detection of tag information and continuous transmission safety. By querying decentralized-storage product and process-data, UHF is a central component of traceability applications in each phase of the material flow. Therefore, continuous data transparency is ensured in the entire supply chain.

BIS V Processor Units

BIS V now offers for the first time the ability to enjoy the benefits of both low and high frequency RFID at the same time, with up to four read/write heads per processor unit. The entire system family is designed for UHF antennas in the short and midrange spectrum. This means one version of the RFID processes is sufficient to seamlessly and automatically track and control the entire material flow of a company, from delivery of the raw materials to the finished product.
