Visible Windows

Edmund Optics visible windows are optical windows designed for use in the visible spectrum to prevent electronic sensors, detectors and other sensitive optical components from being saturated or damaged by light. These windows are ideal for use in imaging applications or as protective displays for industrial or environmental applications and do not introduce magnification power into a system. They should be selected based on material transmission or mechanical properties.

These windows are designed for a wide range of applications, including those requiring high durability or operating temperature ranges. They are available in a variety of glass or plastic substrates. Plastic windows are lightweight, cost-effective solutions for applications requiring strong mechanical properties, while glass windows are ideal for applications requiring superior optical properties or operating temperature ranges.

Available windows include:

  • λ/4 N-BK7 Precision Visible Windows

λ/4 N-BK7 Precision Visible Windows

TECHSPEC λ/4 N-BK7 precision windows are ideally suited for industrial and low-power laser applications. The high-tolerance design yields minimal beam distortion and scatter. Broadband coating options extend their range through the visible and near-infrared spectra. Broadband anti-reflection coating options and laser line V-coats are available.

1λ UV Fused Silica Windows

TECHSPEC 1λ UV fused silica windows are precision manufactured using UV-grade synthetic fused silica. In addition to superior transmission, the synthetic fused silica of these optical windows exhibit higher thermal properties, exceptional purity and excellent environmental durability for demanding applications. Ideal for cost-sensitive broadband applications, they are available uncoated or with broadband anti-reflection coatings, in diameters ranging from 5 mm to 100 mm.

Ultra-Thin N-BK7 Visible Windows

TECHSPEC ultra-thin N-BK7 windows are the thinnest windows available from Edmund Optics and are at least 1/10 the thickness of traditional N-BK7 windows. Their extremely thin designs make them ideal for both weight and size-sensitive applications. Additionally, their high tolerance design yields minimal beam distortion and scatter. They are available uncoated or with a MgF2 anti-reflection coating. Ultra-thin N-BK7 windows are highly fragile, so handle with care.

Anti-Reflection Coated Sapphire Windows

TECHSPEC anti-reflection (AR) coated sapphire windows feature popular coating options yielding improved transmission in the visible and NIR wavelength ranges. Sapphire is a structurally stable monocrystal and as the second hardest crystalline material after diamond, so windows can be manufactured thinner than standard glass types. The thin substrates of these windows, combined with high efficiency AR coatings, make them ideal for any rugged imaging, laser-based or visual applications requiring protective windows.

BOROFLOAT Borosilicate Windows

BOROFLOAT Borosilicate Windows are ideal for high temperature and harsh environment applications. Unlike common borosilicate that is drawn flat, BOROFLOAT is produced by a float technique that yields superior surface flatness, typically 4 – 6λ per inch. BOROFLOAT is about three times more resistant to thermal shock than standard soda lime glass, with a low coefficient of thermal expansion.

Gorilla Glass Windows

Gorilla Glass Windows are chemically strengthened to reduce the propagation of surface flaws. These thin windows feature superior surface quality and excellent scratch resistance. With greater than 90% transmission from 350 – 600 nm, these windows are excellent protective covers for electronic displays in consumer and industrial applications. Due to their durable construction, they are ideal for even the most demanding applications.

Hydrophobic Visible Windows

Hydrophobic windows are designed to repel oil (oleophobic) and other liquids, facilitating cleaning and ensuring maximum transmission of incident light. Hydrophobic treated surfaced windows cause liquids to form droplets on contact rather than be absorbed or spread across the surface of the optic. These windows feature anti-reflection coatings to provide less than 0.5% reflection per surface from 425 – 675 nm. They are ideal for harsh environments, portable handheld devices or biometric measurement devices. Indoor hydrophobic windows are ideal for applications where cleaning or abrasion is expected, while outdoor hydrophobic windows provide better performance both at elevated temperatures and under direct UV light exposure.
