QCM50 Color Sensors

Banner Engineering QCM50 color sensors provide reliable color verification across the entire range of the sensor, even in extremely challenging color-based and contrast-based applications. The high-performance sensor can detect up to 12 colors with one device, which saves inventory costs and enables faster changeover. An intuitive user interface, integrated LCD display and on-board buttons enable fast commissioning and troubleshooting. An available anti-glare model allows reliable detection of reflective targets. IO-Link communication facilitates remote configuration and monitoring.

Available Models:

  • Long-range models (up to 150 mm)
  • Small spot models (4 x 4 mm spot at 40 mm) for very small targets like registration marks or specific colors on a varied background
  • An anti-glare model to reliably differentiate reflective surfaces such as packaging tape or foil

  • Product differentiation
  • Color verification, including confirmation of correct shade
  • Automotive component inspections verifying color and material
  • Distinguishing between polished and non-polished metal surfaces
  • Detecting clear or translucent film on a reflective background, and other applications with mixed materials and minimal color differences
  • Lid or label inspection

QCM50 color sensors precisely verify slight variations in target color at all distances within the sensing range (from 18 mm to 150 mm, depending on the model). The white LED allows the QCM50 to detect a wide variety of targets—including dark, multicolored, and reflective surfaces—that are challenging to traditional sensors.  Color sensitivity is adjustable to meet the application’s tolerance requirements.

The sensor features a rugged metal housing rated IP67 and IP69 for reliable, low-maintenance operation in harsh, washdown conditions.

The QCM50 is easy to program and troubleshoot using the onboard buttons and large integrated backlit display, which provides intuitive, visual confirmation of sensor settings compared to traditional alphanumeric displays.

The sensor can also be configured and monitored remotely via IO-Link, and users can visualize Red, Green, and Blue and total light intensity values of each target, for extremely fine color differentiation.

The QCM50 can be configured using color mode or best fit mode.  In color mode, the sensor is configured to validate a taught color within a specified tolerance.  In best fit mode, the sensor intelligently matches the target to the closest taught color, for applications where the sensor should always provide an output indicating the closest color match, regardless of small color variations.

Depending on the model, the sensor can store up to 12 different colors in onboard memory to verify a diverse spectrum of product colors. Once configured, it automatically matches all colors simultaneously, with no reprogramming required between batches, for faster changeover and less downtime.
