3D Smart Sensors

LMI’s Gocator 3D smart sensors scan object shape and contrast, take feature measurements and make critical control decisions, then communicate directly with factory networks and equipment These sensors deliver 100% inline quality control and material optimization, all with a single device, all at production speed.

Smart 3D Line Profile Sensors

Laser line sensors use a projected laser line to perform shape, surface and volumetric 3D inspection of parts and assemblies. They offer high-resolution scanning, measurement and control for automated quality inspection and material optimization at inline production speed.

Gocator 2490 3D Smart Sensors

Gocator 2490 is an all-in-one solution designed to scan and inspect large targets at production speed in packaging, logistics, automotive assembly, sawmill board optimization and food processing applications. This ultra-wide field of view, large measurement range 3D laser line profiler is able to scan a 1 m x 1 m area at a rate of 800 Hz, delivering 2.5 mm XYZ resolutions even at conveyor speeds of 2 m/s. Gocator 2490 also delivers robust quality inspection of surface defects.

Gocator 2490 is ideal for customers who need to perform:

  • Box/package volume gauging
  • Packaging surface defect detection
  • Automotive component and assembly inspection
  • Sawmill board optimization
  • Food processing inspection and optimization

Gocator 2522

Gocator 2522 is a wide field of view (FOV) 3D blue laser profiler precision-engineered for 3D scanning of glass and other specular materials, including polished metals and plastics. With approximately twice the FOV of the Gocator 2512, the 2522 is the preferred solution in applications with larger scan surfaces, or where limited space demands the use of fewer sensors. The Gocator 2522’s 25 mm FOV combined with a smart all-in-one design makes this sensor a higher-performance, easier-to-use and more cost-effective solution than competing glass scanning technologies such as confocal scanners.

Gocator 2522 is ideal for customers who need to:

  • Inspect cell phone display assembly tolerances
  • Capture diffuse and specular materials simultaneously
  • Perform GD&T measurement of component assemblies with various challenging surface finishes (e.g., transparent, glossy)

Point Profile 3D Smart Sensors

3D laser point profile sensors for high-speed inline inspection applications scan at 32 kHz along the direction of part travel and are ideal for measuring thickness, height and surface roughness. These sensors provide distance and dimensional 3D inspection of fast-moving parts or in closed-loop automation systems.

  • Ideal for dimensional measurements in closed-loop automation systems
  • Pre-calibrated and ready to measure
  • Scalable to a synchronized multiple sensor network
  • Small footprint

Snapshot 3D Smart Sensors

3D structured light sensors for quality inspection and robotic applications deliver full-field 3D inspection of objects with start/stop motion, using a single “snapshot” scan, as opposed to lasers that are used to scan moving objects. Gocator snapshot sensors combine blue-LED structured light with built-in 3D measurement tools for specific object features. These sensors are ideal for inline applications where objects are momentarily stationary, such as robotic inspection and pick-and-place. They minimize the cost of expensive motion system components and errors due to vibration. Rugged housing, small form factor and light weight make them ideal for fitting into small spaces and mounting on robots.

Multi-Point Profile Scanners

The Gocator 200 series are modular, multi-point laser devices that create a scanning system to allow mixing of 3D profiles, tracheid detection and color vision. Run these systems at up to 300 feet per minute in transverse board scanning applications (edging, trimming, planing). The 200 series offers onboard processing and multi-sensor networking capability to build high-definition 3D data models for material optimization.
