Collaborative Robots

The MELFA Assista is Mitsubishi Electric’s newest robot offering, specifically created to work in a cooperative environment. Assista collaborative robots can share a work space with human interaction for a wide variety of applications, with advanced safety functions. Easy control and programming provide operators with the skills they need to interact with this robot quickly and efficiently. The Assista cobot comes with built-in industrial efficiency, straightforward operation and simple connectivity.

The operating buttons on the robot arm provide easy control, meaning a teaching pendant is no longer needed for programming the Assista. The LED on the robot arm displays the cobot’s status. Visual programming software allows simple operator programming using intuitive methods to move the robot arm position and set waypoints. Direct teaching enables moving of the arm for position memorization.

These collaborative robots offer a variety of components, including grippers, fingers, vision and other peripherals, which can be setup and configured with a minimum of time and effort. The setup wizard provides for simpler and more intuitive gripper connection and configuration by operators, without specialized robot expertise.

The Assista can be used for vision applications with Cognex In-Sight machine vision systems. The cobot and the high-performance camera capture the target using an auto-focus function that can be configured by touchscreen. The Power over Ethernet (PoE) camera, whose compact size is ideal for attachment to the robot hand, identifies the target and fixes position at high speed.

This collaborative robot can also be configured to move freely as as part of an automated guided vehicle (AGV)/autonomous mobile robot (AMR). An AGV/AMR unmanned transport cart secures the safety of various sensors and coexists with the operator. Mitsubishi also provides a cart exclusively for use with Assista, enabling flexible response to changes in factory layout or robot use location.
