Photoelectric Sensors

Banner offers the world’s most complete line of photoelectric sensors, with over 12,000 available. Photoelectric sensors emit a beam of light that is used to detect the presence or absence of items and equipment or changes in surface conditions. They are common in industrial manufacturing fields such as material handling, packaging, food and beverage, medical and many others.

Depending on the style selected, they can be used with or without a reflector, be self-contained, long-range, heavy-duty or compact. Many different housing and mounting options offer a correct fit that meets the demands of each application, even in harsh environments.

QS18 Series All-Purpose Photoelectric Sensors

This all-purpose photoelectric sensor with universal housing design and 18 mm threaded barrel is an ideal replacement for hundreds of other sensor styles. The QS18 features a universal housing with an 18 mm threaded lens or side mounts. The sensor meets IP67 and NEMA 6 standards for harsh environments and is available in opposed, polarized and non-polarized retroreflective, convergent, regular and wide-angle diffuse, small spot diffuse, laser, ultrasonic, plastic or glass fiber optic, fixed-field and adjustable-field sensing modes.

The QS18 Expert opposed-mode sensor with IO-Link is a compact, versatile sensor with infrared and visible beam emitter/receiver pairs with a range of 20 m. This economical sensor is now available with superior light immunity, crosstalk avoidance, and IO-Link communication. The QS18E allows users to more specifically determine how the senor will perform. For example, users can use hysteresis sensitivity, on and off delays, offset percentages from teach, and response speeds.

DQ12 Series Miniature Photoelectric Sensor

The DQ12 product line of versatile, compact sensors now has expanded models that deliver powerful sensing performance in extremely confined areas. The new models feature increased sensing range for greater application range or higher reliability due to increased light output. The DQ12 is available in opposed mode, fixed-field, polarized retroreflective and non-polarized retroreflective modes. Opposed-mode and retroreflective models feature increased sensing range for greater application distances, or higher reliability due to increased light output.

The sensor features LED status indicators for power on, signal received, and marginal signal. In addiion, fixed field models are now resistant to ambient light interference, for example from energy-efficient lights. The DQ12 is rated IP67 for use in a wide range of locations and applications. The sensor features an over-molded housing with highly visible pad printing for enhanced durability.

Q4X Series Rugged All-Purpose Photoelectric Sensors

This photoelectric sensor solves many challenging applications and comes in a rugged IP69K rating with FDA food grade stainless steel casing. These versatile sensors offer superior performance and are capable of detecting sub-millimeter changes in distance. They detect across a variety of target colors, materials and surfaces based on distance. Discrete, analog (0 to 10 V or 4 to 20 mA), clear object and IO-Link models are available. Dual teach mode (intensity + distance) is ideal for error-proofing applications and enables clear object detection with no retro-reflector required.

The Q5X Series is a powerful, problem-solving sensor in a cost-effective device with industry-standard rectangular housing. The best-in-class laser triangulation sensor features a range from 9.5 cm (4 inches) to 2 m (6 ft. 6 inches), is easy to use, and provides reliable detection of the most challenging targets. The Q5X offers reliable detection of black targets against a black background, black targets against a shiny metal background, clear and reflective objects, multicolor packaging and targets of all colors.

These rugged high-speed sensors are ideal for challenging presence/absence, orientation and registration mark detection applications with small contrast differences. Fixed background suppression models allow for contrast detection in a fixed range while ignoring a background. High-speed part detection as fast as 250 us captures up to 2,000 events per second, with a reliable sensing range up to 300 mm. The nickel-plated zinc housing is suitable even for environments with cutting fluids and oils.

Q20 Series Industry Standard Global Housing

The Q20 is a versatile sensor with universal rectangular housing and multiple mounting options, making it ideal for global manufacturing. The sensor is available in opposed, polarized and non-polarized retroreflective, fixed-field, adjustable-field, and diffuse models, as well as small spot diffuse models for small feature detection in error-proofing and inspection applications. The Q20 offers a visible red beam for easy alignment on most models and features bright LED status indicators visible from 360 degrees. It provides water-tight, IP67 and NEMA 6 rated enclosure for rugged, reliable sensing and is rated to 1200 psi for washdown environments.

Small-Spot Diffuse Models

The QS18 and Q20 Series of photoelectric sensors are now available in diffuse models with a small, visible spot for detecting the presence/absence of small features (for example screws or tabs) on a larger part. The new models provide a compact, cost-effective alternative to laser sensors for contrast detection of features in error-proofing and inspection applications. Visible spot size varies by distance: QS18 models feature a more rectangular spot (3 x 3 mm at 100 mm), while Q20 models feature a more rounded spot (6 mm diameter at 75 mm).
